To all rape apologists and victim blamers out there, do you know what my rapist did?
1 he tied the door knobs to all the rooms in the compound (there were ten rooms) except mine so that no one would be able to come out if I screamed.
2 he broke into my window.

3 he tied my hands behind my back and tied my legs while he went to open my door and hid the key (where he got a rope from is a mystery cause I had none in my room)
4 he took my gadgets outside so I wouldn't be able call anyone immediately.
5 he raped me twice on my bed; yes. After his first round, he flipped the mattress and forced his way in again because I had peed the first time (the only thing I knew about sex then was my secondary school biology. I have never touched or felt a live penis before.
6 he took me outside into the bush behind our compound with my blanket on my eyes and my body over his shoulders, into an uncompleted building where he raped me again.

When he was done, he asked me to leave the building and keep walking and not look back.
He had a knife all the while this was happening and repeatedly threatened to kill me.

Do you know the kind of girl I was?
1 the only thing I did was school and church.
2 I never attended a party because social gatherings wear me out (I still don't).
3 I was always reserved (because I'm an introvert and minding your business is a recepie for long life).
4 I was never in a relationship (because I never fancied any of it. I'm 20+ and I still never had a relationship).
5 I had a boring and plain dress sense (I still do because I have no interest in fashion and make up)
6 I was a virgin.
7 I never went anywhere and so, I was always in my room minding my business and being a decent human being.

What did this do?
1 it caused a very terrible pregnancy and disease scare for me.
2 I can't walk down the street without subconsciously looking over my shoulders even though I like taking walks alone.
3 panic attacks I can't make a sense of when I'm alone at night.
It wasn't about what I was wearing or how I looked or where I was. HE intentionally targeted me, stalked me and sought to cause me harm. So when we talk about rape, the only person responsible is the rapist and not the victims who mind their business.
Women are not responsible for how men should conduct themselves. We are not your moral baby sitters. We are just humans trying to exist and live. This is the deepest I've ever talked about that incident. My future sexual partners or husband will wonder why it takes me time ....
..to trust them.
If you are a victim of rape, male or female, I see you and my heart is with you. I wish you nothing but healing and justice. The only justice I got from the law was a statement being taken and nothing else.
I hope my story encourages you and helps you heal. #RapistsAreCriminal #wearetired #whyididntreport #SayNoToRapist #JusticeForUwa #protectwomen
