I’ve been skeptical about Biden but let’s be clear that the policy solutions he’s proposing here would substantially reduce police violence in America. That is something worth voting for and organizing for. I’m going to do what I can to push for these things & more to be enacted.
Changing the use of force standards of the US is vital, and we need to these standards to be even stricter than what’s proposed in Congress so far. They should include all 8 of the restrictions identified here, which together reduce police violence by 72%. useofforceproject.org
He also calls for demilitarization of police - another solution with evidence of effectiveness at reducing police violence. And his platform calls for an expansion of DOJ investigations and consent decrees - which reduce police shootings 20-30%.
There remain questions about the scale of this expansion of the DOJ - will it be at the scale it needs to be to hold the nation’s 18,000 police depts accountable? This is another area to push further.
Bottom line, the plan would make a real difference - and pushing Congress to go further would expand upon that.
