Came across some very angry tweets and motivated criticism obviously with lack of information based on blind hatred on why @SatyendarJain and Delhi govt released Jessica Lal's killer Manu Sharma ahead of his sentence being completed. Let us look at facts in this thread 1/n :
First of all, govt cannot release any convict. It is the Court appointed Sentence Review Board which has to review the cases for release as put by jail authorities, in this case the Tihar Jail. First of all let us understand what is the Sentence Review Board (SRB) 2/n
SRB comprises of seven members - a district judge, a Joint Commissioner level police officer, Tihar DG, Delhi Home Secretary, Probationary officer, Law secretary & is headed by Home Minister. It sends its recommendations to LG in Delhi's case, since LG is the law & order boss 3/n
In Jessica Lal murderer, Manu sharma's case, it was put up before the SRB for six times over last five years and was continuously rejected to the extent that Delhi HIgh Court pulled up the SRB : 4/n

Further, in successive meetings when home minister @SatyendarJain was outvoted for opposing the release of some convicts, and he sought deferrment of SRB meetings, the Board was again pulled up by the Delhi High Court : 5/n

SRB was repeatedly confronted with reports from Tihar administration about good behaviour of the conduct and a letter from the victim's family was placed on record that they had no objection to his release, still SRB kept rejecting it 6/n

In keeping with my consistent stand, every decision of any govt must be questioned and scrutinised, but shouldn't facts be kept in mind ? Can a single SRB member with a single vote keep vetoing a decision indefinitely faced with tough Qs from courts and fellow SRB members ?? 7/n
Also this being a law & order issue, SRB being a statutory body under law can only recommend its finding to the LG, who is the final authority and has the discretion to overrule or accept, since this is not a cabinet or govt decision n/n
