“When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength.”

I lived in China, spoke Mandarin and made close friends.

Everyone I spoke to who wasn’t alive in 1989 told me that it wasn’t peaceful students in the square, but dangerous & destructive infiltrators. That’s why the government had to crack down.

The message had been controlled.
Do not underestimate how the current fight for racial justice can be co-opted, compromised or controlled.

Peaceful protest is our right. And one of our strongest avenues for change.

All the while, please wear a mask. Wash your hands. And get tested.

Be strong. Be safe.
