Personal framing. 1st Wave: The Initial epidemic wave - ie what much of the world is now experiencing. Rebound: New infections in 1st wave decrease as a result of measures imposed but does not get to zero, measures lifted/stop working & there is a rebound of the 1st Wave.
2nd Wave: 1st epidemic wave comes to an end, no or almost no detectable transmission, very few individual cases, R0 well below one. At a later date (~3-12mths) a new epidemic wave starts: Second Wave.
Rebounds & 2nd Waves not inevitable, much depends on decisions & actions taken in 1st Wave, lessons learned, social & technological advances that change fundamentals of infection: social & behavioural adaptations, trust, clinical care, better diagnostics, treatments & vaccines.
But must learn those lessons & makes those advances.
