#BeingBlackInBermuda is knowing that your talents are better appreciated overseas but you are still determined to fight for your rightful place in your own country to ensure your children don't have to put up with BS that you did growing up. -DB

Someone asked why am I not working in IB in #Bermuda. Being valedictorian of my high school, earning a bachelors degree with honours, elected president of GWU & a graduate fellowship for my masters degree wasn't enough to crack the IB bubble as a black Bermudian man in 2003. -DB
Thankfully, after being unsuccessful in trying to break into Bermuda's private sector, Dr. Ewart Brown had faith in me and gave me the opportunity to computerise TCD in #Bermuda, and I was honoured to repay his faith in me by putting TCD online b/w 2004 & 2007. -DB
This is why my reaction was so visceral when I witnessed how some in #Bermuda were trying to tear down @CarikaElshae, as it reminded me exactly of my earlier days in #Bermuda where it was as though my education and experience didn't matter due to my age AND my race. -DB
There are so many stories I can tell about #BeingBlackInBermuda, the non-response to applications for jobs you were qualified for, the rude rejection emails (I still have them 17 years later), the 'compliments' which are really surprise that a black man knows his stuff. -DB
There are many stories to tell, but for all those who are tired of the state of #BeingBlackInBermuda or shocked by the stories, don't go wobbly on me when we take this energy and convert it into legislation with teeth. I can't push without the army behind me, so let's go! -DB
