Well they certainly don't come from vegetables.
Calling them this gives them too much credit. Makes them sound healthy and natural. They're anything but.
Those are fine to consume as they're produced with minimal processing and they don't fit the profile of other cheaper oils commonly found.
Canola
Rapeseed
Sunflower
Safflower
Cottonseed
Cornseed
Soybean
Peanut
The oils extracted from these seeds are anything but natural or healthy.
Here's how they're made 👇
Governments recommend we consume these to reduce risk of cardiovascular problems.
But why are people fighting back and saying they're UNhealthy?
HOWEVER we need omega 3 & omega 6 fatty acids to be roughly in balance.
Modern diets see this ratio more like 20:1 in favour of omega 6
This is linked to skin and many other types of cancer.
You won't be able to get enough omega 3 by simply eating more sources of omega 3 because you'll EASILY eat A LOT more Omega 6.
Check the labels of all packaged good and you'll probably find one in the ingredients list.
This makes it pretty hard to have the right balance of omega 3:6 if you don't intentionally try to cut down on omega 6.
They end up in your cell membranes, and when they oxidise there they damage cell molecules such as protein and DNA - thanks to the free radicals produced when they oxidise.
Some vegetable oils are hydrogenated. This is an additional process which is used to turn them into solids at room temperature. This is how margarine is made.
This process creates trans fats and all their additional problems.
Heart disease, cancer, diabetes.
Margarine should be avoided like the plague. It doesn't really spoil, and even flies aren't attracted to it.
Doesn't really seem like a food...
- Stop using vegetable oils for cooking immediately
- Stop using margarine immediately
- Buy butter, olive oil and coconut oil
- Inspect every food label for vegetable oils
- Focus on food in its natural state
- Eat mostly meat and REAL vegetables
- Restaurant food - the cheaper the worse - especially deep fried.
- Dressings, mayonnaise, crisps, chips, sauces, marinades and condiments.
- Microwavable stuff like packet rice.
- Cookies, crackers, snacks
- Pretty much anything in a box or package
This isn't realistic for most.
Eliminate them from your home & day to day, then don't stress if you get some from the odd meal out or social event.
