With everything else going on in the world, you may have missed that there were more new #COVID19 cases in Tennessee than in any other week of the pandemic. 1/
The previous high was the week that the state added 1,156 cases in one day, due largely to the outbreak at Turner Trousdale Correctional Center 2/
And it's not just because Tennessee is testing more. The number of new #COVID19 cases as a percent of total new tests is also increasing 3/
New #COVID19 hospitalizations in Tennessee are also increasing. The previous high was the week that the state added 119 hospitalizations in one day that was described as a statistical correction 4/
Last week also equaled the second highest number of #COVID19 deaths since the pandemic began 5/
My guess is that this week's numbers may begin to show the impact of mass street protests. 6/
Finally, Tennessee currently ranks 13th in the country (among 50 states and DC) for per capita #COVID19 testing after having been in the top 10 for a time. Here is the top 25. 7/
Finally, Tennessee ranks in the bottom 10 for #COVID19 death rates. Here is the bottom 20. 8/8
Additional info: According to @TNDeptofHealth, Tennessee's overall death rate is 1.6%. If you are over age 61, it's 9.1% - almost 1 in 10. If you are in a long-term care facility, the death rate is almost 12% 9/
Also, the number of #COVID19 cases among children age 0-10 jumped to 932 (4% of all cases) - from 720 the week before (see below). Cases among ages 11-20 jumped to 2,023 (8%) - up from 1,670. 10/
Latest data from RT.live suggests Tennessee's #COVID19 transmission rate is still below 1.0 - after having climbed above that threshold last week rt.live/share/us/TN?r=… 11/
.@TNDeptofHealth presentation last week: "Tennessee is a shade of pink because we've not really been moving in a great direction right now, compared to some of our surrounding states in the South. We are still struggling with the pandemic and our numbers of cases here." 12/
More of @TNDeptofHealth webinar for health professionals: WHO recommends positivity rate below 5%. "It looks like this may be more community transmission than it is we are not testing enough folks." 13/
Good news: no huge spike in ICU or ventilator usage 14/14
