While so many of you are opening your hearts + donating to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement, I'd love to suggest also supporting organizations led by black formerly incarcerated people + children of the incarcerated.

Here's a short list of some incredible orgs to give to:
Forward Justice (@forward_justice) is a nonpartisan law, policy, and strategy center dedicated to advancing racial, social, and economic justice in the U.S. South.

Change the South. Change the nation.

A New Way of Life Reentry Project (@ANewWayofLife1) led by @SusanBurtonLA provides housing and support for formerly incarcerated women for successful community reentry, family reunification, and individual healing.

VOTE (@FIPVOTENOLA) led by @RealNHenderson is a grassroots org founded and run by formerly incarcerated people, families + allies, dedicated to restoring the full human and civil rights of those most impacted by the criminal (in)justice system.

College & Community Fellowship (@ccf_ny) led by @Vivian_Nixon_WW enables women with criminal convictions to earn their college degrees so that they, their families + their communities can thrive.

Legal Services for Prisoners with Children (@LSPC_) organizes communities impacted by the criminal justice system and advocates to release incarcerated people, to restore human and civil rights, and to reunify families and communities.

National Council For Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, led by @andreacjames,
is a network of women impacted by incarceration focused on ending the incarceration of women and girls.

Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (@FLRightsRestore) led by @desmondmeade is a grassroots organization run by Returning Citizens who are dedicated to ending the disenfranchisement and discrimination against people with convictions.

We Got Us Now (@We_GotUsNow) led by @EbonyUceo is a nonpartisan advocacy organization amplifying the issues children and young adults with incarcerated parents face due to mass incarceration.

JustLeadershipUSA (@JustLeadersUSA) led by @MzDeHoskins is dedicated to cutting the US correctional population in half by 2030. JLUSA empowers people most affected by incarceration to drive policy reform.

A Little Piece Of Light led by @DonnaHylton targets the housing instability women released from incarceration face, while providing them with supportive services needed to address trauma + obtain training and employment opportunities.
