Figured I’d give a play by play of my day voting in Atlanta GA bc I’m going to be here a long long long time.

This is my third time trying to vote. First I applied for an absentee ballot that never came. Same as 4 other people in line near me. Well known issue in the ATL. 1/
Multiple emails from ga.gov told me it was processed. Just never issued. Same for my husband. Once it became apparent I was not going to get it in time I went to early vote.

Find out there are only 8 early voting locations for ALL OF Fulton Co. 2/
I live downtown. Closets early voting location was almost 8 MILES away in Buckhead. If you know anything about Atlanta you know that’s ridiculous.

Drive the 25 minutes it takes to get anywhere here. Arrive a couple of hrs after opening. Already 100+ in line. No one’s moved. 3/
It’s my daughter’s birthday and I don’t have hours. Ugh. I leave. Voting on voting day it is.

Which brings me to today. Voting location opens at 7:00 am. Got here at 7:15. Already 200+ in line.

Brought my 3 Cs of voting - coffee, chair and computer and settle in. 4/
I’ve not moved since I got in line almost an hour ago. And now I find out why.

The machines are broken. Again. In yet another Georgia election. In yet another black neighborhood.

We’ve been informed that the Mayor has been notified. 5/

More info just arrived. Machine’s not broken but they don’t have log on information?!! And now are trying to get the info from the Commissioner.

Please explain to me how this can happen?

Now saying we will get paper ballots that will be counted today. I’ve no confidence. 6/
Here 2 hours and moved 100 ft. No further word on anything here but just reported that ALL machines are broken at Ralph Bunche and Sandtown Recreation Center. Guess where those locations are?

Call me cynical but I haven’t heard of probs in white Sandy Springs or Alpharetta. 7/
Don’t tell me this is coincidence.

How am I supposed to have faith that my vote is being counted?

Machines FINALLY up and running. Still 50 ppl back. It’s been 3+ hours.

Letting more people in at a time so line is moving now. But of course that makes it more dangerous for spreading COVID_19.

Voting is a right. We shouldn’t have to risk our health and safety to do it. 9/
Clearly 50 ppl back was a low estimate bc 45 minutes later I’m still back 30 ppl or so.

As I hit my 4th hr in line all I can think about are the millions in this country who are disenfranchised bc they can’t take 4-6 HOURS out of their day to stand in line to vote. 😢 10/
Final installment. After 5 hours and 8 minutes I have voted.

And as I handed in my print out with it’s unverifiable bar code I couldn’t help thinking “I really hope it counts.” 11/
