1/What's the journalistic case for the NYT presenting anecdotes about "many black communities" or "some African-Americans" without noting, anywhere in this piece, polling showing an overwhelming majority of black Americans have ON NET positive (albeit conflicted) views of police?
2/ Good, comprehensive coverage of this protest movement in the paper of record would try to reconcile this seeming divide. I'm no expert, but off the top of my head it seems likely that the people who show up at a City Council meeting during a moment of profound and horrific
3/ crisis might not represent actual neighborhood opinion. The article isn't *bad*, per se, and does get at some of the nuances. But there's a strong whiff of the news side of the Times feeling like it needs to amplify a facet of the movement that doesn't necessarily reflect
4/ public opinion. You can ABSOLUTELY report on Garcetti's move, or the momentous Minneapolis decision, or the protests, while tucking in a few grafs about how, despite all this, black public opinion has been shifting in a more pro-police direction. In fact you sorta have to?
