1. The amount of money due to the MDC Alliance from the state (ZWL7,5 million) is less than US$100K. If half of Nelson Chamisa’s followers donate US$ each, the party will have US$300K in an instant. The people will fund their struggle. There is no need to rely on the regime.
2. If the regime can facilitate the theft of parliamentary seats and the seizure of the party HQ, I cannot understand why the MDC Alliance expects the regime to disburse that money under the Political Parties (Finance) Act. Khupe is claiming it & they will give it to her.
3. It is unfair but it is what it is. That the regime is callous and hellbent on total destruction of the MDC Alliance is no longer news. As I have said before, with ZANU PF, you have to anticipate that the worst is going to happen & prepare contingency measures because it will.
4. The trouble is, as an African diplomat once said to me in 2013. “You Zimbabweans”, he said shaking his head, “you’re hopelessly hopeful people”. It was his way of saying we hope even in situations that do not warrant any hope; where hope is a danger to ourselves.
5. So even now, even as it’s so clear that the agenda is total destruction and there is no letting up, some people still think somehow there is a chance ZANU PF will relent; that somehow, there’s a chance. There’s none. The worst imaginable will happen.
6. Instead of waiting and hoping that the Supreme Court will declare that the money should be given to the MDC Alliance, the party should be mobilising alternative means of funding. And there’s so much goodwill among supportive Zimbabweans, it only has to say please.
