I’m outside of the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct for @townhallcom. Police have pulled out of the area and protesters have set up barricades in the streets. They have declared it a “Cop Free Zone.”
Some of the signs posted around the area. One calls for the defunding of the Seattle PD and the dropping of all charges against protesters. Another says, “The cops will always be racist because capitalism requires inequality.”
Protesters have put on the barricades that those coming into the area are “now leaving the USA” and entering the “Cap Hill autonomous zone” or “Free Capitol Hill.”
SDOT has moved into the area to remove some of the barricades. They have negotiated with the protesters to leave most of the barricades in place. Protesters said they want them in place to keep white supremacists out.
Marching away from the East Precinct in the streets of Seattle, large protest crowd chants: “Defund SPD!”

Have yet to see any police presence.
Protesters have now taken over the lobby of Seattle City Hall. Again, don’t see any police.
A lot more people are back outside SPD’s East Precinct, which is now being called a community center inside the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone.”
More pictures from inside the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone”: A smoking section has been set up, a large makeshift banner is now on the East Precinct, and there is a “No Cop Co-op” shop.
Found another name for the Zone: The People’s Republic of Capitol Hill.
The “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” basically turns into a block party in the evening.
Dumpster fire started just outside the boundary of the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone.”
Protesters called the fire department about the dumpster fire.
The occupiers in the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” have torn away some of the barricades police left in place at the East Precinct.
My latest report from the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone“: Things are getting dangerous for people who are accused of wrongdoing. In one instance, an accused thief was surrounded by a crowd and interrogated, with one person brandishing a bat in his face. townhall.com/tipsheet/julio…
Occupiers in the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” are now trying to figure out what to do next. A packet being given out suggests: Taking over the East Precinct, move the CHAZ, or dissolve the CHAZ.
Found the community garden that is being set up in a park nearby “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone.” Occupiers have also set up tents in the park.
Occupiers forced this guy out who was live-streaming inside the zone. The crowd was calling him a white supremacist, though the man being pushed out says he’s simply an anti-abortion advocate. The crowd chanted, “Who don’t matter? This motherfucker!”
Tensions are high in the CHAZ after some officers came in to enter the East Precinct. Some in the crowd wanted to make sure nothing happened to the officers. Others wanted to prevent the officers from entering the zone. Arguments are breaking out amongst the crowd.
Tensions are still high as speakers are arguing on what to do next in the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone.”
A lot of people are inside the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” listening to people speak. It’s pretty peaceful right now.
Some more items have been added to the “No Cop-Op” shop. A sign says they do not accept cash or donations as “kindness is our currency.”

During daily announcements in the CHAZ, one of the speakers said they need to come up with an official name for the zone. He asks the crowd if they’re scared of Trump possibly sending in the military. They reply “No!” and being to chant “Fuck Donald Trump!”
One of the new tents that has been set up in the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone”: A Feelings Station
Someone in the crowd inside the CHAZ said he doesn’t think they are ready to deal with the police if they came to reclaim the area today.
An update on the community gardens in the CHAZ: wiring has been placed around the plots and yes, that’s cardboard underneath the soil.
Another tense scene right outside the boundary of the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” where people are getting into a confrontation, not sure why. I was asked to not record the incident by someone.
Found a CHAZ medic with knight armor. He said all of that weighs around 80 pounds.
Dodgeball is being played in the tennis courts near the CHAZ.
Dodgeball was put on hold after a scuffle broke out.
Arguments are breaking out in the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” as some people want to take down the CHAZ street sign while others want to keep it in place.
It appears the CHAZ street sign is staying for now as the man climbed off the ladder and a struggle broke out over control of the ladder. A woman asks, “Is anyone in charge?”
After there were arguments over whether the CHAZ sign should be removed last night, one man criticized the crowd for using the zone as an excuse to party and bicker over petty stuff. He told them to remember the true reason why they are occupying the zone.
Can confirm this sign in the CHAZ is real. It says this plot is for black, indigenous, and their plant allies for gardening.
Haven’t seen too many American flags inside CHAZ but there is a United Nations flag.
A “Conversation Cafe” has been set up in CHAZ. Some of the rules: Speak your truth, celebrate differences and similarities, and center people of color.
There is a growing consensus to rename the area from the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” to the “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest.” An occupier is trying to remove one of the CHAZ street signs.
And one more CHAZ sign is officially down.
A scuffle broke out in the zone after a man came around screaming that this is a “Christ Zone.” A masked guy then tried to block my phone from recording the incident.
The confrontation continued in the CHAZ/CHOP as the “Christ Zone” guy accused someone of stealing his phone. A person came up and said, “Mental health, we got this.” To which another person said, “No, you don’t ‘got this!’”

It was eventually resolved.
When they were trying to get the man off the stage in the CHAZ/CHOP, one woman asked the crowd if there were any white people who had experience in security.
As expected, there’s a lot of people in the CHAZ/CHOP this Saturday afternoon. The tent city is growing and a sign says, “Social Distancing Is Anti-Racism.”
People with American flags are about to enter the CHAZ/CHOP and are not receiving a warm welcome.
The American flag people have reached the edge of the CHAZ/CHOP.
The crowd took offense when one of the American flag people called the CHAZ/CHOP a “communist hellhole.” Some in the crowd told the others to not give them attention. One black man said it was wrong for the pro-CHAZ white people to tell them what to do.
They are now walking through the CHAZ/CHOP.
Someone in the CHAZ/CHOP just stole one of the American flags.
As the American flag people tried to leave the CHAZ, some drink was was thrown on them. The crowd called them white supremacists. One CHAZer asked how a black man simply holding an American flag makes him a white supremacist.
The crowd tried to steal the last American flag but were unable to take it away.
