10 June 1942 | A group of prisoners of the penal company at #Auschwitz who were digging the main draining ditch at the Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp, decided to escape. About 50 Poles started to run, only 9 managed to flee the pursuit. Some were later captured. | Thread 1/10
Aleksander Buczyński, on the 4th day after the escape he was captured by German gendarmes near Mysłowice. During the investigation he was incarcerated in Block 11. He was executed on 14 July 1942. | 2/10
Tadeusz Chróścicki managed to swim across the Vistula river and after a long march, thanks to assistance provided by the Poles encountered on the way, he crossed the border of the General Government. He remained in hiding in Radom. He survived. | 3/10
August Kowalczyk managed to cross the Vistula river and hide thanks to the assistance of the Poles he met. Then he crossed the border of the General Government. He was a soldier in the Home Army. He survived. | 4/10
Jan Laskowski broke free from the chase. However he was caught on 28 July 1942 in Tarnów and deported to Auschwitz again. | 5/10
Jerzy Lachecki (Łachecki) fled the pursuers and survived the war. | 6/10
Józef Pamrow fled the pursuers but on 27 February 1943 he was captured and sent to Auschwitz again. He was shot during his next escape attempt. | 7/10
Zenon Piernikowski fled the pursuers. His further fate remains unknown. | 8/10
Eugeniusz Stoczewski was captured by German gendarmes on 14 June 1942 near Mysłowice. During the investigation he was held in Block 11 at Auschwitz I. He was shot on 14 July 1942. 9/10
Józef Traczyk perished on 10 June during the chase. | 10/10
