Thought it is needed to put this out there because a lot of misinformation was floating of "negligence"-
Reporter Manoj's death is unfortunate, but the condition he had made him vulnerable and HIGH risk on two levels-

1. His lung muscles were weak due to myasthenia gravis
2. His thymus gland which is located near the throat and chest was removed as a precaution to avoid cancer in future, cos with Myasthenia, chances are that this enlarges and gets cancer. So it was removed
Owing to the removal, the T cell or cells that make immunity for us were suppressed because THYMUS gland makes T cells and contributes to immunity. He was also on steroids and so his immunity was lower further
It is unfortunate that he even caught the COVID virus. As journalists I think we throw our lives for granted (I speak from experience of knowing ALL journalists do so). It is sad that such a young life died so untimely and abruptly
This is not to deny that Gandhi Hospital is understaffed and under-equipped but blaming his doctors and the staff involved is not correct because on multiple levels we failed a patient with rare immunity disorder like that which Manoj had.
Fully know about your health status and take all precautions. This virus is no joke and will find the weakest link in your body and break you apart. Don't put through your family through the trauma of wanting answers, because the virus is so new even Doctors will be out of words
I learnt this after meeting PG docs @ #GandhiHospital who took the time to explain. I was also of the impression that he may have fought the disease, but rationally speaking, the odds were against him.
Wish the doc's who we quote explain the case, it would stop misinformation
