In a parallel universe, my 14 year old cousin who is now in 9th grade just had her first zoom class yesterday. She has to attend these for Maths, Physics and Social studies and the class goes on for 4 hours with breaks. Yesterday was her first class and this is what transpires-
While their 40 something and 50 YO teachers manage to connect to the call, most students take help of their parents to connect online. The initial 10 minutes go away in parents saying-"Lag gaya kya?Madam percentage sikha rahi hai kya? Arreh call mute karna hai kya"..
The class somehow commences. Now some teachers like their zoom class noisy (How?) & don't instruct for the kids to mute their calls. What one ends up hearing is all the family drama- from the vendor outside, to banging of utensils to the older/younger sibling throwing a tantrum
One kid infact screams out "Mummy apne mujhe school uniform kyu pehnaya? Kisi ne bhi nahi pehna yaar" The rest of the kids control their giggles while teacher continues ignoring&teaching. (FYI, with it being Wednesday the kid actually wore her "Heart House" t-shirt)
On the contrast - The Math teacher appears to love getting responses and while she makes children mute calls, she writes down the questions on an A4 sheet and asks children to respond. The kids fumble and unmute at different times and the answers end in a cacophony with confusion
Also either the zoom call cuts off for some reason randomly or the kids get distracted and leave. Because my cousin is now miffed that teachers are not taking attendance and what starts with a class of 40 becomes class of 36 in the end..
Well, atleast some one is enjoying lockdown and stories like these help you get past all the #Corona
Happy #zoomclass to all the parents and kids :)
