I've received a few requests from Year 1 PhDs for resources to get started with CA & IL. I'm still relatively inexperienced, but I do know where to start diving in, so this long thread, I hope, will be of use if you want to know where the action is (pun intended!).
But before I include any introductory biblio, I'll share some links, as a greater part of my training has involved doing CA with others and actively interacting with the wider EMCA-IL community (Ethnomethodology, Conversation Analysis, Interactional Linguistics) in different ways
As someone who tried to self-teach CA, I have to say it's a bit tricky if you have not "experienced" it. I'd read textbooks and papers during my MA and thought I knew "how", but I realised I was really wrong when I got to join my first live CA gig....(drumroll) the data session.
What is a data session? Here are some useful resources by @saul : saulalbert.net/blog/the-data-…
saulalbert.net/blog/how-to-pr…
And a list of data sessions worldwide you may want to join: rolsi.net/data-sessions/ (being currently updated for the @emcawiki with online data sessions).
Through @ISCAupdates (International Society of Conversation Analysis), we also offer the opportunity to hold and attend Remote Data Sessions (#EMCARemote). It's a good opportunity to meet other PhDs/postdocs doing CA and IL in a supportive learning space conversationanalysis.org/remote-data-se…
Since this thread came out in June, a number of cool things have happened in the #EMCA world, like @ISCAupdates' podcast "State of Talk" conversationanalysis.org/state-of-talk/, and their newsletter which is fabulous and shows the scope of our community conversationanalysis.org/newsletter/
The community for "young" researchers in IL-CA, #COREILCA grew and thanks to the coordination of @cal_virgi @nhmikkelsen and Yotam and the active engagement of members there are now regular writing sessions, meetings, and interest groups. The website will be public soon.
In support of #BlackLivesMatter and social justice, a great group of EMCAers have started #EMCA4SJ and have regular meetings and data and reading sessions, and they have put together a "diverse reading syllabus":
Contact @Nat_Shri for details.
Different CA-IL research centres have started offering open talks, like @CASLC_UoY with Jeff Robinson, later myself and shortly @si_mcav

@DARG_sessions @lboroCRCC have hosted Lorenza Mondada recently (see @rolsi_journal 's tweets for some live-tweets)
@si_mcav and @CASessionsSouth have been holding open data sessions and development sessions regularly, and so have @DARG_sessions
The @emcawiki holds a calendar with events, CfPs, and job opps deadlines: emcawiki.net/Calendar
A fabulous group of PGRs/EGRs in Zurich have put together @zosmia, the first school on multimodality in interaction happening this week and hosting some of key figures in the field.

#EMCA researchers working with data in diff varieties of Spanish opened the @conversanalista network coordinated by @vgtemer @lmanuelolguin and @alexadelboca , and there are regular data sessions and cool projects in the making.
We are all grateful to @ArielVazquezC for doing important work in the initial translation of a lot of CA terminology and making CA accessible to Spanish-speaking audiences through his great book: researchgate.net/publication/33…
We can expect a lot of fascinating CA-IL work to be presented in 2021, with the following events happening:

a) Turn-Taking workshop (Jan 14-15, HU Berlin) easychair.org/cfp/currentspe…

b) #IPrA2021 Winterthur with a number of cool IL-CA panels pragmatics.international/page/Program20…
c) The Berlin-Groningen Workshops on Multimodality #BreGroMM will have a full day on interactional studies (Jan 15) docs.google.com/document/d/1I0…

d) Hopefully #Nordisco2020 will also happen in 2021 (Nov 24-26) nordisco2020.se
Lovely interviews with EMCA academics and recordings of lectures have been collected by the @DARG_sessions people, and are available here: lboro.ac.uk/research/crcc/…
Recordings of Lboro's #CADay will be released soon, stay tuned to @JackBJoyce 's announcements.
