BREAKING NEWS: Reports of a stabbing of a #Jewish man in Stamford Hill, with an ongoing investigation as to whether it was motivated by #antisemitic hatred. We are monitoring the situation closely and have the victim in our thoughts. We will provide further updates in due course.
UPDATE 1/3: Police say the Jewish victim is in his 50s and has been taken to hospital with stab wounds that are not life-threatening.
UPDATE 2/3: A suspect in his 40s, restrained by the public on Stoke Newington High Street, has also been taken to hospital with possible head injuries.
UPDATE 3/3: He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Police are not treating the incident as terror-related. Witnesses should call the police on 101 giving reference CAD2315/12/06/2020. 
UPDATE: We have seen footage of the suspect being held down by members of the public, shortly after which he was apprehended by police. The incident is not being treated as terror-related and has not been confirmed as a hate crime or otherwise. We are monitoring the situation.
UPDATE 1/3: As Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath, nears, we wanted to provide an update. Police are maintaining “an open mind” as to motive and are appealing for witnesses to today’s stabbing attack.
UPDATE 2/3: DS James Tipple said: “We’re conducting extensive enquiries into this attack and have been gathering evidence. However I know many people saw this attack and, if anyone has any footage or information about this incident, please come forward and tell us what you know.”

UPDATE: Stanley Francis, 44, of Coronation Avenue, Stoke Newington has been charged with attempted murder and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. He will appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Police still need witnesses to contact them on 101.
