Today's announced rule by the Trump administration means doctors and nurses and other medical personnel can refuse to treat them. For anything.
Let me emphasize that: this isn't just a question about affordable health care for transgender patients. It's not just about insurance. This is about literally having access to even life-saving medical care in an emergency. Doctors can simply say "No, I don't want to treat you."

On the morning of August 7, 1995, 24 year-old Tyra Hunter was on her way to work as a passenger in a friend's car when it collided at an intersection in D.C. -- she and her friend were pulled from the wreckage, and paramedics were called.
Tyra Hunter was nearly incapacitated on the ground when paramedics arrived and began treating the injured. A male fireman cut open her pants consistent with protocol and upon discovering she had a penis, stopped treating her and began ruthlessly mocking and misgendering her.

You might be wondering what's going on with the Senate and if we can win it. I've drawn up a quick and simple explainer for folks who don't have time to read through a bunch of electoral analysis. Here are three levels for Dems, from best to worst odds. (thread)
Before we start, some reminders: about 1/3 of the Senate is up for election every two years. Senators serve six-year terms which are staggered across three "classes". In 2020, we'll have 35 seats up, all of Class 2 plus special elections in Arizona and Georgia.
The special election in Arizona is to serve out the remainder of the term John McCain won in 2016. The winner will only serve until 2022 (six years) and then may choose to run for reelection to a full term. It's currently held by Republican Martha McSally.

When J.K. Rowling says she knows trans people, it's really hard to believe that. I'll tell you why: folks who have trans people in their lives--and actually care about them--know much trans people generally go out of our way to accommodate cis folks. Let me explain. (thread)
Like any community, trans folks are definitely not a monolith and our experiences vary widely, but there are fairly common actions we take just to be in the public square and avoid risking violence and discrimination from cis people. Here are some examples...
I haven't been to the gym since I came out. Most cis women would be completely chill with a trans woman using the showers after a workout, but do I want to risk pissing off some random transphobe? No. Do I want to risk having someone take pics of me w/o my consent? No.
