(1/n) In today's post we will be looking at 2W domestic industry and try to understand how different segments are performing.
(2/n) 2W industry is divided into 3 segments, we can clearly see that over years scooter segment is gaining market share, which is getting stagnant in last 3 years. TWI stands for Two Wheeler Industry.
(3/n) In scooter segment, we can see dominance of Honda. TVS motor is continuously gaining market share which Hero Motocorp is loosing.
(4/n) Motorcycle segment is further divided into 3. 1) Entry, 2) Deluxe, 3) Premium. One thing is worth noting that Premium segment is gaining Entry segment market share. This shows that people are shifting to costlier bikes.
(5/n) Entry Segment (<125CC bikes). Hero Motocorp never lost dominance in this segment, this leads them to have more than 50% market share in complete motorcycle segment.
(6/n) Deluxe Segment (>125CC & <200CC). Bajaj Auto is the leader in this segment, 40+ market share. TVS Motor stole market share of Hero Motocorp, increasing their market share >20% currently 2nd largest in this segment.
(7/n) Premium segment (>200CC). Royal Enfield is dominator in this segment, they have only targeted niche area (classic bikes). Hero Motocorp lost complete market share as no new good innovation coming from company side after Karizma.
(8/n) TVS Motors is the only company in this segment, commanding 100% Market Share over the years.
(9/n) In current time, we are seeing good recovery in Entry segment as it targets Rural Areas which is less affected to COVID issues. Demand from this area should improve market share of Entry segment of Motorcycle.
