It is done through maintaining a state of readiness viz trained and motivated manpower, modern wpns and eqpt and logistic wherewithal to discourage other nations / alliances or entities to resort to violent or non-violent coercive means in bi/multilateral dealing(s).....

Slackness / weakness in Deterrence is an indirect invitation to aggression.
Calls for defence budget cuts at a time when India is on an upwards trajectory in defence spending would result in an imbalance in the deterrence regime of South Asia.

Yes, tomorrow Indian army pushes back PLA and retakes even 50% of the area, the Chinese would themselves be asking for dialogues and these would certainly be meaningful.
