*** RE: NEW VISITATION RULES ***
I just had a man reach out to me to share his first 'visitation' experience under the new rules. I want to share parts because I am confident that the government has not properly considered the added trauma this is causing. #onpoli
His mother is partially blind and losing her hearing.
He was placed at one end of a 10 foot long plastic table. Him at one end, his mother at the other. His mother couldn’t even tell it was him. His heart broke as he saw how thin and frail she has become....
The staff informed him that his mother appears to have lost the will to eat....if true (and not from missed meals due to under-staffing), then this is a textbook trait of isolation-induced depression.
.
He noticed how despondent she appeared. "It was like she had given up & she didn’t even know who I was".
Adding insult to injury, with her being hard of hearing, she could barely him across the 10 foot table, and with his mask on, she also couldn't tell it was him.
"When they were taking her away I asked them to stop inside the glass vestibule so that I could take my mask out outside and so she could see my face. I saw her smile for the first time. She told the person pushing her wheelchair that that was her son".
I ask you @DrFullertonMPP @fordnation: Is this the BEST you can do? Do you think this is "reunification".
I keep searching for a glimmer of empathy or compassion but have yet to find it.
