Sex (male or female) is an identity - you cannot escape it, society punishes it in women. Same with skin colour, disability and age (multiple disadvantage for women).
Sexual orientation is not an identity - it can change. It's only society's crazy heteronormativity that makes it a real issue.

Transgender is not an identity, it's a behaviour choice. No child would see themselves as trans unless they were in a stereotyped environment where they cannot have the full choice of toys, activities etc.
Identity is about something you cannot change which you have not chosen. Transgender is something people do, not something people are.
