Democratic voters gave up any and all leverage when they pledged to vote for the nominee no matter what.

I understand why people feel like they should “vote blue no matter who,” but we should be clear eyed about the consequences.
Right now the onus is framed thusly: “Don’t criticize Biden and vote for him no matter how out of touch with the electorate he is because Trump is worse.”

Fair enough.
But it could be framed: “Biden will be more electable, draw stronger contrasts with Trump, & encourage more voter participation if he moves left. And until he does, I withhold my vote. If he loses, it’s becuase of his choice to put donors over voters.”
What’s really interesting about this moment is that the policies the left wants him to adopt are overwhelmingly popular, so the usual excuse— that progressivism comes at the expense of electability — doesn’t hold.
So arguably, the proximate cause of a Biden loss if voters did in fact withhold their votes wouldnt be voters being “selfish” or “unpragmatic” or “overly idealistic.”

It would be Biden’s choice to put the interests of his corporate donors before winning the election.
