Loving this "Looking Back at Postgres" paper. So many excellent burns 🔥
Also plenty of shade for code within PostgreSQL.

(But luckily this code seems to have landed in /dev/null)
I work in the cottage industry of materialized view maintenance! I feel seen 🙈
Some more shade thrown at current #PostgreSQL versions!
Some shade for Bill Gate's effort to build a file system on top of a relation database.
As somebody who has looked at the Postgres 3.1 source code this weekend, I totally agree. It's pretty amazing how similar the code base organization still is today!
I think a lot has happened since this paper was written in 2018. Parallel query support in core PostgreSQL is getting more powerful with every release.

Citus et al are still more powerful, but I have high hopes for PostgreSQL to eventually render them commodities.
Haha, I love this one as well. It's ironic that Stonebreaker's paper "One Size Fits All: An Idea Whose Time Has Come and Gone" is best refuted by the success of his earlier work on #PostgreSQL.
Just finished reading, so no more tweets coming.

But I loved all the colorful stories!
Oh, and if anybody has problems finding the paper, here is the link: arxiv.org/abs/1901.01973
