OK, don't be too hard on Darren here. (Thread)
When I was at university, one of my best friend was black.
I never saw him having any trouble when he was out with just me, or out with a group of our student friends.
Then when my friend got married, for his stag night his friends and family came down.
As students some of us weren't that well dressed, but his family were incredibly smart.
When we went into the city, and we were refused entry at every single place we went.
Each time the reasons were actually kind of ridiculous.
Finally my friend said they would have to do the usual 'trick'.
We went back to one of the bars that couldn't take us because there was a "private event".
Then each white guy would pick one of my friend's family and friends and walk into the bar, wait a a minute, go back outside and pick somebody else.
When we were all in, we stood have a nice quiet night drinking and talking.
I learnt that night to never assume my experience of my country is the same as others.
I would never comment on how racist this country is.
I was about Darren's age when I learnt this, and it appears to me that some people never learn this.
The problem here isn't Darren, but the people who have helped give someone inexperienced and immature such a large platform.
Darren being totally ignorant of how the world works isn't really his fault.

The fact so many people are subjected to that ignorance is down to other people.
Our problem is how do we enlighten people in the face of a system that appears to be geared to do the opposite. ☹️

/End
Some people have raised the 'courageous comment'. I'm not defending that, but it's likely at his age that Darren cannot begin to understand how unqualified he is to comment on how racist this country is.
