After listening to hundreds of podcasts, I've realized that the best answers have a similar arc.

1) State your main point

2) For abstract concepts, use a metaphor

3) Share why your argument is counter-intuitive

4) Tell a story to explain the point

5) Re-state your main point
This came from a conversation with my friend Will Mannon, who summarized the idea here.

Here are two ways to improve your storytelling.

1) The Story Circle: Start and end your story with the same metaphor — close your story where it began.

2) The Story Roller Coaster: Start with positive emotion, then create conflict, then end with a resolution. Up, down, up.
