Formulating Feeds for your Layer Chickens
Chicken feeds acount for almost 70% of costs. Taking control of feeds ensures you cut on cost
Quantity: 0.915ton mix
1. Chicks:
Bran 350kgs
Broken maize 300kgs
Soya: 175kgs
Sunflower cake 50kgs
Fish 25kgs
Premix 10kgs
Salt 5kgs

However, for chicks I advise you use starter crumbs only. This is because if you are not keen on the formulations you might lose all your chicks.
Starter crumbs ensure faster growth for the first 1 month.
The chicks mix above can start during week 5 when winning to grower.

2. Grower Phase

3. Developer stage

4. Prelayer
Thiis is a critical stage as you are preparing your chickens for laying.
Ensure lighting conditions are favourable for the layers.

5. Layer
The chickens have started laying and will require more of sunflower, lime and soya which are important in egg formation.

The following ingredients are also important in formulations.
Zincbacitrach
Lysine
Threeonine
Enzymes
Tryptophan

For farmers who want to drastically cut on feed costs, do the following:
Mix broken maize with soya or fish/omena in a ratio of 5:1 and feed the chickens from morning to afternoon. As from 4/5pm Feed them on commercial feeds.
