EU, foreign mins were warned by US officials before yesterday’s @SecPompeo call to tread carefully on criticism of US’ ICC move. Told Pompeo might end call early if laid in. In the end, Dutch ignored that and strongly critical. Pompeo just ignored that and didn’t respond.
And can now definitively say that @JosepBorrellF was not told in advance about @RichardGrenell announcement - just after the @SecPompeo call - inviting Kosovo, Serbia to White House for Dialogue talks later this month. -2-
In general, the call seems to have been somewhat a dialogue of the deaf. Seems @SecPompeo stuck to his talking points (China, China and China above all), didn’t much respond to European points on other issues but at least there were no clashes, outright rudeness. -3-
