A STORY OF NY CULT WITH ROOTS IN BOMBAY: This is a lesser known story of a relatively famous American cult/ sect of 70s with roots in Bombay. I have neither time nor money to manage the law suits so will not be taking any names. I will, however drop in a hit at the end of story

If you want names, please DM and if I know you well enough – I will drop the name. This story has two part , first one is about the founder and second part is about the successors.
Part 1- B.M was widely regarded as one of the most learned proponents of meditation to come out

of India, after being introduced to US in 1970. The flower children of 70s , disillusioned by Vietnam war and growing capitalism lapped up the spirituality B.M offered. By the time he died in the 80s, he had built 100s of meditations centers across the globe.

While the most ardent of his critics would admit to the fact that he helped thousands of people spiritually – there are enough evidences and witnesses to suggest that that there was much more to B.M than what met the eye. B.M met his guru in a meditation center near Bombay and

after years of meditation – it was believed he acquired tantric powers and enlightenment. After the death of his guru – he declared that the Guru had passed on the mantle to him and he took over the sect and center. . He came to US in the 70s to spread his sect & very soon had

deep rooted himself in the American spirituality bazaar with thousands of followers and centers across the America with the epicenter in NY.
However his reign was also peppered with stories of sexual abuse, illegal labor and wealth and use of guns and violence.

Inspite of claiming to be celibate and preaching celibacy – his sexual perversion was not hidden from his close circle especially since many of the victims were teens .
A woman ( Lets call her Ashley) claimed that B.M had a special area in the NY center that he used for his

sexual affair . It was similar to gynecologist table . B.M used to stand behind the curtain on many evenings watching the women devotees come back to their dorms and invited the ones he liked to his room . He then gifted them with money and jewelry and then asked them to undress

The same happened to Ashley. B.M told Ashley that he is initiating her into tantric sex. Ashley mentions that he did not have erection but he inserted as much as he could and his eyes were rolled up to the ceiling . He looked as if he was in some kind of ecstasy.

He was 73, Ashley was in her early 20s.
Many also claim that he had a tunnel that connected his room to the women dormitory and he had girls marching in and out of his room all night long. He also watched from key hole as the women changed their clothes. His ardent close circle

who knew about this defending his actions saying that it was spiritual and not sexual as he did not ejaculate ( as conserving semen was conserving the spiritual energy).
There was also a letter that was written to D.M by one of the senior followers accusing him abusing minors

in the pretext of checking their virginity. He was also accused of molesting a 13 year old ( This was his way of loving- as per his devotees). He was known to prod the vaginas of devotees under the pretext of choking their virginity and this was the last straw for few of his

closest and most ardent devotees who started to question the belief that they had in him .
Many of his ardent devotees resorted to strange logic and stories to justify these transgressions. These stories had started coming forward after 3 heart attacks and other health issues.

There were some who believed that by inserting himself inside vaginas of young girl , B.M was absorbing their energy to cure himself. Yet others used to tell this story to portray that you can never understand what learned men do. The story goes as follows-

Once a holy man who had given up all luxuries had a vision that instructed him to accept all the worldly luxuries that might be offered to him . Soon the vision started to come true and he had palace , money, gold and all other luxuries. Once a pious king decided to pay him visit

and saw him lying with two women on bed – they were giving him massage. Seeing this the king had doubt if he was holy and learned man at all or just pretending to be . The holy man sensed his apprehension and asked everybody to leave the room . It was just him and the king.

He then called for a silver bucket and ejaculated his seminal fluids in the bucket filling it to the brim. Shortly afterwards calling his spritual power , he absorbed back the semen in his body . Moral of the story “ It is impossible to understand the learned men “

Apart from his sexual transgressions, it was also his anger that was often the topic of discussion among his devotees. He was known to beat up devotes on smallest of mistakes and his devotes believed that it matter of great spiritual honor to be beaten up by D.M.

His security used to beat the poor farmers who sometimes would pick up the coconuts from trees in the center in India. He once stabbed his driver multiple times in the hand with a fork. Not only he was famous for beatings , his security staff was also famous for breaking bones of

people who did not tow the line. Of the two of his closest security guys- one was ex-Vietnam veteran and another was NFL player with criminal record.
Inspite of all the muck inside, the coffers will filing like bottom less pit. The 2 day meditation courses raked up nearly

quarter of million dollars every week. The NY centers in house restaurant bought in $ 3000 per day . Over and above they use to target average of $1500-$3000 donation from devotees.
D.M was very attached to the money. He spent most of the time in private sessions with his

devotees who were loaded with money. The devotees who were doing the actual work at the centers were bonded labor who were dependent on D.M for any money. Once a devotee walked blind for many weeks as she had broken her glasses and had no money for the new glasses.

So exactly how much money did D.M have? No one other than D.M had that information but as per close devotees back in 1977, it was in range of $5-8 million for that year – just in swiss account. Using human conduit to carry cash from US to India was also a very common of the group

Many devotees have mentioned that they carried bundles of cash under their clothes on flights from US to India .

Part 2 of NY cult- He drove in black limousine and flew in lears jet ( $20 million in todays value). He counted rich and famous as his devotees – American politicians, famous astronaut, Hollywood stars and allegedly ex prime minister of India ( non BJP)

He was revered to an extent that his devotees drank his bath water and workship the trimimgs from his hair . People considered it honor to be tapped by the guru and those who had long term relationship with him were called his queens.

Many women described the experience of having him inside them ; without being hard, without ejaculating for 30-60 mins as state of total ecstasy and nothing to do with sex.

One of the long term admirers of D.M from Bombay ( before D.M became famous) sent two of his

kids to study with D.M – a girl ( lets call her G.M) and boy ( Lets call him N.T) . D.M died in 1982 but before that he declared G.M and N.T his successors . N.T was casual, funny and focused on mediating rather than preaching. G.T was more new age, enjoying the

PR and being the front face.3 years later – the Bombay center made the announcement that N.T was made co-leader only for 3 years and was now being removed , G.M was the true Guru. After few days another announcement was made that N.T was being removed as he had broken

his vows of celibacy. Every devotee was strictly told to burn any pictures, videos they had of N.T. G.M was announced the sole successor and leader and continues to be the lead.
Few years later N.T gave his side of story. He admited that he had sexual relation ship with 6 women

and they were all consensual and that he admitted that to whoever asked him. The people of G.M started surrounding him and threatened him saying he was no longer their Guru – broke the windows of his car and slashed his tyres. G.M and her followers locked him in the room and

forced him to sign papers including bank papers stating he was giving up his rights and money . He called all the women he had relations with in the room and made them cane him and his principle aid ( with whom he was currently in relationship) , including asking them 2 hit him

on his penis. N.T was pushed into oblivion while G.M became the undisputed leader and continues to be one

G.M has also been reported to have relationship with her devotee who was regular at Michigan center. Over the years he was reportedly jailed for abusing a minor girl in the

ashram and possession of guns etc . But the relationship between G.M and him continued. She continues to feign ignorance to D.M ‘s sexual transgression .

Allegedly she is the guru that features in memoir Eat, Pray and Love although it has never been explicitly stated by author
