I am unsurprised that a coterie of cynics on both the right and left are arguing that there’s nothing new in Bolton’s book, that we’ve heard it all before. So it seems worthwhile to state exactly where “The Room Where It Happened” does proffer sonething new (1/6)...
First, Trump’s abject desperation for a China deal does undercut any campaign effort to paint Biden as weak on this front. Biden sure as hell never would have done this: (2/6)
Second, John Kelly’s explicit quote about Trump’s inability to cope with a crisis sounds pretty new, and 2020 certainly confirms it, (3/6)
Third, and most intriguingly, Bolton throws Mike Pompeo under the bus and then backs the bus over him again. Really looking forward to @mikepompeo responding to queries about this book (4/6)
Fourth, Bolton makes even more explicit what the impeachment inquiry and press coverage implied — that Ukraine was hardly the only country in which Trump tried to use foreign policy to directly benefit his campaign. (5/6)
Finally Bolton repeatedly confirms the most important fact about Donald Trump’s foreign policy: he is the worst negotiator in American history. He lacks the necessary attention span and impulse control. Which you could have learned from another book. #fin amazon.com/Toddler-Chief-…
