18 Indian Army soldiers died in an ambush by an outlawed group 5 years ago. This group had received supplies and support from a neighbouring country, and at least some of its leaders are known to be sheltered in this same country.

Guess the country.

It’s China.
In June 2015, soldiers of 6 Dogra Regt died in an ambush in Manipur’s Chandel district.
Army’s SF responded by conducted raids on militant camps in Myanmar. The opening scene of Vicky Kaushal’s Uri depicts a cinematic version of that ops, but I digress.

The attack was claimed by United National Liberation Front of Western South East Asia (UNLFW), a group of nine militant groups led by NSCN-K and the Paresh Baruah's ULFA faction.

@Rezhasan covered this alliance in 2015, 2 month before the ambush. (3/n)

A top Assam cop and a former militant told @psychia90 in 2017 that China was actively sponsoring the latest wave of militancy in the NE.

“There’s a simple rule in revolution,” the former militant said. “Your enemy’s enemy is your friend.”

Here’s an April 2020 update on the Dhola-Sadiya bridge and how it was causing problems with China. The bridge is of great strategic value and makes it easier and quicker to reach Arunachal Pradesh.

Back to those responsible for the Manipur ambush. NSCN-K’s Khaplang is dead. But ULFA chief Parash Baruah is alive and well. And in China, "according to surrendered ULFA functionaries and inputs received by Indian intel agencies.” - @rajkbhat

How the confessions of NSCN-IM (different faction) leader Anthony Shimray show China is fuelling India’s northeastern insurgencies. @saikatd's excellent story in 2011.

"Beijing's use of the 'rebel factor' against both Myanmar and India is historical, dating back to the Mao-Zhou era when Naga and Mizo fighters trekked to China's Yunnan for training. [@SubirBhowmik, 2017]

Here’s the bottomline.
Long before #GalwanValleyFaceOff, China has had blood on its hand via proxies.
Much like Pakistan did for Pulwama.
