Brig Devinder Singh is a hero who was wronged.
Misrepresentation of his battle performance cost him a war medal and possibly led to his being passed over for promotion as Major-General. May have even missed a shot at becoming army chief because of internal politics. (Thread)
The Armed Forces Tribunal upheld claims that top commanders (including then GOC 15 Corps, Lt Gen Pal) falsified accounts of battles in the Batalik sector, where Brig Devinder Singh was operating and in command. Here's my report from May 2010 when the order was made public.
"In April 1999, Lieutenant-General Pal dismissed warnings emerging from a war game, which suggested that a Kargil-like intrusion could take place. Brigadier Singh played a key role in the war game; his appraisal was proved correct." - @praveenswami in 2010.
