Local manufacturers have continued to innovate to #KeepKenyaMoving. This includes the manufacturer of high-quality Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) in line with global and national standards.

We have today visited TexPlast Limited, Manchester Outfitters Limited and Alpha Knits Limited in support of @CovidFund initiatives. The manufacturers have repurposed their production lines to produce high-quality PPEs.

In addition to the manufacture of PPEs, TexPlast Limited, based in Kikuyu is also manufacturing raw materials used to produce protective gear. TexPlast is also keen on realizing Kenya's circular economy. They recycle plastic waste to make gunny bags.

Manchester Outfitters, based in Industrial Area, Nairobi, is known for making corporate uniforms. The company have repurposed its production lines to manufacture PPEs and are now serving 12 African countries.

Alpha Knits, based in Ruiru, is big on knits and knits wear such as sweaters, socks and kikoys. The company is now producing PPEs for use by medics. They are also manufacturing reusable masks made of kikoy, shuka and kitenge.

It has been a great afternoon recapping the outcomes of the First Ever Women in Manufacturing Research in Kenya #WIMKe

In a forum hosted by @ICRWAfrica to discuss the #WIMReport, KAM CEO @PhyllisWakiaga noted, 'Women are sidelined in the sector, with majority of industries being predominantly male-owned & staffed. Only 3 out of the 14 sectors have a female workforce of 40% & above.'
