THREAD: Tomorrow, on Juneteenth, Minnesota Senate Republicans are planning to leave town instead of passing serious policing reform.

We'd like to introduce you to some of the Senators who want to cut and run on Minnesota as our state cries out for justice and change. #mnleg
Meet Paul Gazelka. As Senate Majority Leader, he's chiefly responsible for blocking most police reform bills.

@paulgazelka is a bigot who recently gave an interview during which he said that sexual assault and bad parenting can turn people gay. #mnleg

This is Warren Limmer. He runs the Senate Public Safety Committee.

@SenWarrenLimmer frequently ignores the will of the people of Minnesota. Last year, he blocked key gun safety bills like universal background checks, which 84% of Minnesotans support.

Meet Karin Housley, the Assistant Majority Leader in the Minnesota Senate.

Somehow, @KarinHousley felt it was appropriate to compare Michelle Obama to a chimp on social media. When this was brought up, Housley refused to apologize for her racist comment.

Allow us to introduce Mary Kiffmeyer, President of the Minnesota Senate.

After George Floyd was killed, instead of listening to people demanding justice, @marykiff decided to post on Facebook about how much she thinks "each black" wants in reparations.

Meet Dan Hall, a Republican Senator from Burnsville.

@SenatorDanHall is a giant homophobe who thinks being gay is an illness that you can cure. In 2019, Hall stopped DFLers from banning incredibly harmful and cruel attempts to "cure" LGBTQ people.

This is Scott Jensen, a Republican Senator from Chaska.

@drscottjensen has spent the past few months blatantly lying about the COVID-19 death toll, attacking public health experts, and fueling conspiracy theories about the coronavirus.

Meet Carla Nelson, a Republican Senator from Rochester.

When U of M students protested racist speakers on campus, including one who said Black Lives Matter is worse than the KKK, @CarlaNelsonMN wrote a bill to ban campuses from disinviting these speakers.

Allow us to introduce Dave Osmek, a Republican Senator from Mounds.

Last year, @DaveOsmek predicted that Jason Lewis would "chop" up Senator Smith "into little pieces" and called Smith an "empty-headed pile of nothing."

Meet Roger Chamberlain. He's a Republican Senator from Lino Lakes.

@rcchamberlain1 spends a lot of time on Twitter where he retweets cruel slurs and likes conspiracy theory posts calling Bill Gates a "Pedo Cuck" and telling the philanthropist to "eat a giant bag of dicks."
Lastly, meet Justin Eichorn, a Republican Senator from Grand Rapids.

Recently, in a stunning failure of empathy, @SenatorEichorn used people experiencing homelessness as campaign props and compared them sleeping in tents on the street to leisure camping.

Given their appalling records of bigotry, indifference, ignorance, and cruelty, it's no surprise that Minnesota's Republican Senators have already vowed to block most serious police reform.

That has to change, and we need your help to do it. #mnleg

The Republican Senate is planning to leave town tomorrow and leave this important work unfinished. We need you to call their offices and demand they do better.

You can find all you need to make calls at dfl.org/callforchange. We cannot let this chance for change pass us by!
If GOP Senators refuse to listen to Minnesotans demanding change, they must be voted out. Fortunately, the Minnesota Senate is up for election in November. #mnleg

No matter what happens tomorrow, the DFL Party is committed to being a steadfast ally in the fight for racial equity, the work to create real change, and the pursuit of justice for all who call Minnesota home.
