DECO has a rep, especially in this era, for being style-over-substance or "weird for weird's sake" or just bad but I think Chelnov is peak DECO in all the best ways—it's absurd, inventive, original and the unique controls feel core to the game rather than a reckless afterthought
the MD port gives it a big audiovisual overhaul and I like that version a lot but it does have one huge flaw: it changed the final boss to some mesoamerican death god, instead of a floating xenomorph torso wielding a sword
oh and it changes the arcade version's utterly fantastic ending, which I won't spoil
