@MarkWSchumann Read the article.
The point of police abuse is too obvious to debate. The point that *all* police are abusive is to simplistic to defend.
I deeply understand the long history that she cites. Her article is, IMO, a reaction, not a response. And one that is so full of practical &
@MarkWSchumann 2/ logistical flaws; ones that take a rather pollyannish view of humans and human nature, that it really is hard to take seriously as a remedy.

As a cry against the mountain of injustice and harm inflicted on citizens, minority and otherwise, I take it to heart. Am moved by it.
@MarkWSchumann 3/ As a prescription for remedy, it is, again, IMO, lacking the necessary insights to be actionable.

Without a doubt American has steadily become a more litigious, legalistic, & power sotted country, one where police power functions w some immunity for its "legal" violence.
@MarkWSchumann 4/ In this it is instructive to note that we are, as I have proposed elsewhere, in the time of the #Brownshirts...That time when chaotic violence is being used to disrupt the social order, seemingly separate from any upper level direction, but certainly fulfilling the top level's
@MarkWSchumann 5/ purposes. After the brownshirts comes the blackshirts. Or, in our case, these epochs were in the nascent overlap, Trump & Barr calling in the military to do his bidding.
We have, thankfully, seen the top military reject this role. For now. Back to the #brownshirt function.
@MarkWSchumann 6/ I believe in looking at things systemically, & trying to understand root causes.
The author cites many, but her prescriptions seem utopian, not viable. A vision perhaps, but not a remedy in the present tense.

For now, & for the long future, we will need a police function.
@MarkWSchumann 7/ We just need it to function according to the rules, the values, and the actual mission of the police departments... Not the vigilant, psychotic intentions of a minority of officers.

So it seems to me.

Hope we get thru this time more or less intact.
