Quite the report on the hard problem of speech in the era of Facebook.
Many questions raised few answered. But demonstrating the impossibility of trying to make laws/rules based on insufficient principles/ propositions. Every exception becomes a question. overcast.fm/+I6LLEk
The conundrum is expressed in the quote “ a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds”.

This conundrum is the essence of #systemsthinking and the admonition to “think deeper” “think different”.
The inability to protect our American values & underlying propositions is what has given Trump the ability drive his car bomb into the heart of the country and institutions and detonate it so effectively.
Tr is not governed by the foundational propositions of the country.
There is not a law against the lawlessness Tr has been able to enjoy. The mechanisms that are in place to deal with these sorts of matters have been uniquely subverted and neutered by the capitulation of the GOP Senate to Trump(ism) and their refusal to do their job.
Add to this having Barr as his AG as personal attorney for Tr- against which there is also no Law, only “Norms”- and there are few constraints left standing.
The last resort, last remaining bulwark against this assault are the courts and the election.
The Central point ,taken from the topic of the podcast; Facebook trying to find a rule that applies in all cases leading to a huge rules document Is precisely the place we find ourselves in today. The range of issues that are in some chaotic state is comprehensive.
Politics; the issue of police enforcement; which lives matter ( And why, and why not); issues of life and death; how to distribute money. & wealth, how do we even understand money and wealth?; who is a person? and who a citizen. All of the upheaval that has been these last few
years has upset our assumptions. In such times the systems become unstable. While searching for a new axiomatic prison to organize around. To re-create stability.

If Facebook flubs the rules about posting there is limited damage.
If we, citizens, America, flub this moment
The damage will be immense.

Thus the profound invocation to return to first principles and “think anew”.

We are coming to a choice point where we will take one road or another. Ambivalence, a state of chaos, at the level of our founding, organizational, principles will not
be able to be sustained for long.

This example of what Facebook was/is grappling with is a microcosm of the issues that are shredding our old ways of thinking about these foundational questions of what is our understanding of out social contract? What is the #system of
Principles that cohere into a society that will sustain us now and into the future. What does that society look like?

Our founding principles were articulated in the Bill of Rights. The structure of the government was articulated in the Constitution.
.
The way these Axioms of America have been implemented no longer can withstand the internal contradictions.
We truly have to “think anew”. Thus arrive at a new way of understanding that enables us to adapt to current realities in ways other than massive documents of rules & laws.
Interesting auto correct I did not catch... axiomatic prisons! Should have been principles.
