Ok, here are the remaining poll-by-poll maps for the province of #NewBrunswick in the latest election. Fredericton was posted last night. Of the 10 ridings in NB, the Tories flipped three. First, though, is the full completed map of the three Maritime Provinces #cdnpoli
First up: the mainly French-speaking ridings in the northern part of the province. Liberal MPs René Arseneault & Serge Cormier were both easily reelected with a majority of the vote in Madawaska--Restigouche & Acadie--Bathurst, respectively. The Tories and Greens won some polls.
Moving south to the large rural ridings of Tobique--Mactaquac and Miramichi--Grand Lake in central New Brunswick, the Conservatives targeted both after losing them in 2015 to the Liberals. T--M especially leans Conservative and only barely voted for Liberal TJ Harvey in 2015,...
...who decided not to run for reelection. The former MP who lost in 2015, Richard Bragdon, won back his old seat with a majority of the vote and won just about everywhere. And in Miramichi--Grand Lake, despite all the blue on the map, Liberal Pat Finnigan surprisingly held on...
...by 1% thanks to strong support in the eastern part of the riding, especially the French speaking part in the northeast corner and Elsipogtog First Nation. The city of Miramichi itself was a wash. This was one of the closest races in the country and was not called for hours.
Anglo southern New Brunswick is historically a Conservative-friendly area. All three of these ridings ousted Conservative MPs in the red wave of 2015. This feat was not repeated this time. In the port city of Saint John, Liberal Wayne Long managed to narrowly retain his seat,...
...but in New Brunswick Southwest and Fundy Royal, Karen Ludwig and Alaina Lockhart, both of whom surprisingly won in 2015, were swept out convincingly by the men they had defeated four years ago.
Lastly, in the southeastern part of the province near Moncton - a bilingual area - two cabinet ministers, Ginette Petitpas Taylor and Dominic LeBlanc, were reelected, although the Green Party greatly improved and won several polls, especially in the Sackville area of Beauséjour.
So despite all of the blue on the map of New Brunswick, the Tories only flipped three seats. The Greens picked up Fredericton (will post that map again here), but overall the Liberals did better than expected in much of New Brunswick.
