Thread (1/n): My family and I are under isolation at @PradhamaH, #Vizag from Friday afternoon and we are waiting for our #COVID19 test results. When we were brought to the hospital, we had to keep going to each floor to check which rooms are empty.
(2/n)After some going around, we found a wing with empty rooms but the rooms are in a pathetic condition. The workers however claimed that the rooms were cleaned. The picture attached is the condition how are rooms and corridors were.
(3/n) With no concerned staff in the wing I went to the reception and complained to the concerned staff. Only after an argument did they agree to clean the rooms and the corridor. They other side of the wing already had a few people under isolation.
(4/n) The rooms however, had no bare minimum facilities like a lock, handwash, soap, dustbin or a doormat. There was layers of dust on every table and window with no curtains. There was no concerned person we could talk to in our wing.
(5/n) I have to go up a floor to talk with any staff while the reception was of no use on call. They sounded as clueless as I was. After a few hours they called us for taking our samples.
(6/n) We had to have an argument there as well as we were kept waiting for more than an hour while the doctors and they relatives swabs were collected first. I tried reaching the nodal officer Raghavendra but the call went unanswered.
(7/n) Meanwhile, a friend of mine came to drop in some essentials as my father and Uncle were diabetes patients and they need food on time. The staff were of no help and my friend had put the bag in the lift by himself using the same lift as positive patients
(8/n) The lift however, is not working properly and the lift button to our floor is not working either. The staff though had gloves and masks did not help us in any way. We were all clueless as what is happening and what will happen with us, here.
(9/n) It was around 8.30pm by now and there was no sign of dinner. When asked around the other members in the group said dinner usually comes at 10pm. I wonder how do they expect elderly to not have dinner till that late!?
(10/n) When the dinner was being distributed at around 9.45pm I figured that they give only one 1 litre water bottle for the entire day. The staff did not care even if the people told they'd pay for an extra bottle.
(11/n) After ensuring that my family would manage for the night and gave all the essentials, I realised that my room's lock is not working and there is no other in the same floor. I had to be here because I have to be there for my family.
(12/n) Today, we got breakfast at around 9.30am and no lunch till 3pm. The staff however said that there were more people coming in and the staff couldn't manage the load which is a fair point to consider.
(13/n) All the while no one checked on us if we had any symptoms. I understand that there are so many people and very less staff. There is a dire need for the management to come up with more staff which reminds of how poor our public health system is.
(14/n) I could get a lot of things done all through, only because of my Press card. I wonder how people who have no access to the contacts I have are managing. I wonder what my family had to go through if I am not a journalist.
(15/n) From reporting the pandemic to experiencing what happens inside a quarantine centre are two different things. A part of me does not want to yell at the staff because I can understand what they go through and the lack of basic logistics.
(16/n) My family always wanted to go by the rules and my father strongly believes that the government will take care of us. If this is how the government is taking care of us, then I think we should really reconsider our system and choices.
(17/n) There is also a lot of uncertainty over when we get our results. There are people waiting for more than a week for their results, along with us. And the officials say we'll get our results in 24hours. Most people are prepared only for that.
(18/n) Trust me, this is not a good place to be in physically or mentally. Hope you stay safe. @ysjagan @AndhraPradeshCM @GummallaSrijana @vizagcollector
(19/n) Since we didn't get lunch till 3pm and my Uncle cannot eat outside food, my friend dropped in a few fruits and other essentials. The security denied sending them up because apparently, it's not allowed.
(20/n) When I spoke with the concerned staff Nagendra, he told it is not allowed. I mentioned us that they are providing food for every six hours which is not possible for a diabetic patient to sustain.
(21/n) He told I should take permission from the deputy collector. @vizagcollector do we need permission to provide healthy food for our parents, sir? While the Hospital failed to do so.
(22/n) I am usually not a person who picks fights with any management. But, @PradhamaH is testing my patience. Everything seems to be so wrong here, I wonder why no one questions?
(23/n) Maybe we believe in our system and government way too much and expect it to correct itself. @ysjagan @AndhraPradeshCM @GummallaSrijana @vizagcollector could we please have better services?
(24/n) As a journalist and a fellow human being I am speaking this for everyone in my wing. This is just not about me or my family. It is about every other person who believed in the government for taking care of them.@AndhraPradeshCM @vizagcollector
(25/n) I request everyone to not make this about political parties. It is the health of the people that we should take care of during a pandemic and not political parties.
