The man behind the soldier:

5 of 20

Hav (Gnr) K Palani

State: Tamil Nadu (Madurai)

Age: 40

Survived by Parents, brother, sister, wife, a son and a daughter

Oh where do I begin about this man!

I felt sad reading about the others but I wept reading about his life.

You see Palani belonged to a very poor family. As a teenager, he aspired to join the army and did so once he finished his twelfth standard exams.

He was the eldest son of the family and had responsibilities that had to be taken care of.

And he did it too.

He first got a BA for himself through distance learning mode. Next he foot the bill for his younger brother's education, who btw has joined the Armed forces too. 3/n Image
He educated his sister and bore the expenses of her wedding.

As far as his immediate family was concerned, he ensured his wife didn't give up on her academic pursuits and encouraged her to go for B.ed and post graduate studies.

His son is 10, daughter only 8 years old.
(I have shared the pic of him with his wife and children. The matching shirts of Palani and his son will make you smile. )

After 22 years of back-breaking toil in extreme climatic conditions, all to ensure that his nation was safe, Palani finally managed to save enough and get a loan of 17 lakhs to build his own house.

Last January, when he visited his family he was very very keen and wistful about wanting to be there for the Griha Pravesh which was scheduled for June.

But Covid19 and the tense situation at the border made it impossible and his family moved into their new house without him on the 3rd of June.

As a villager fondly recalls, "He loved cooking and would cook for everyone whenever he was home."

Last Saturday, when the phone rang in the Palani household, they knew who it was as it was a routine, Havildar K Palani would speak to his wife and two children regularly. 9/n

He told his wife he wouldn't be able to call for a few days as they were moving towards the border for a while. She was worried. But he had assured her there was nothing to worry about.

He was wrong though.

There was plenty to worry over.

To weep over.

To break one's heart over.

💔

P.S: I will post one condolence message every day for each of the 20 martyrs. I am not going to group them together in tribute and remembrance as they have been grouped together in death.

Have you guys read this piece of shit article by Tavleen Singh?

She begins with how India is in danger not from Hindutva Fascists but from "jihadists".
She implies that Hindu extremists are better than Muslim extremists because a Muslim extremist once chopped off the hand of a teacher in Kerala.

Of course Ms. Singh doesn't once mention the hundreds of Muslims who have been lynched for dietary choices or for just existing.
No Pehlu Khan or Akhlaq or little Asifa who was raped and killed because of her religion is mentioned once.

No Najeeb who disappeared into thin air is remembered.

No Gauri Lankesh who was executed on her doorstep by Hindu fanatics is talked about.

Yesterday I was disgusted to find a woke dalit handle go #BrahminicalPatriarchy over that a$$hole MP cop beating his wife and rightfully being hit back.

Now you might think why was a bemused?

Does #BrahminicalPatriarchy not exist?

Oh if only!
It's because it does and is way effing more retarded than domestic violence.

Ramu, Sandeep, Ravi and Luv Kush raping the dalit girl from Hathras and paralysing her and inflicting unspeakable wounds on her is #BrahminicalPatriarchy
A girl goes to gather fodder for her herd of animals and she is raped to death.
Yes, she died this morning.
It's not effing casual. It's dark, psychotic, disgusting, as bad if not worse than racism. So kindly don't use that term for every crime against woman.

Please don't forget:

Demonetization broke the backbone of small and medium businesses, of farmers, of daily wage earners.

Yet most of them went ahead and voted for Modi in 2019

For once let us forget lynching of minorities, murder of activists and purchase of MLAs.
But demonetization hurt them at a personal level.

Yet they voted for Modi.

During dark days I used to think that Indians voted Modi "to show Muslims their place".
I don't think that was ever the reason.
The reason is Godi media and it's propaganda.

First thing required is a hold over media.

Everything else will fall in place.

I think Congress supporters should refrain from supporting any other political party unless an official coalition is formed.

Be it Mamta Banerjee or Pinarayi Vijayan.

Concentrate on your own party

Write about the wonderful work being done in Chattisgarh.
Write about the dedication of your chief ministers from Captain Amarinder Singh to Ashok Ghelot.

Write supportive posts about coalition CMs like Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren.

But keep equal opportunity leaders like Ms. Banerjee or Kejriwal at arm's length.
While Kejriwal stands exposed after Delhi riots, the next to fall in line will be Mamta.

Mark my words.

Maybe Congress' chance of winning Bengal looks slim only due to optics.

Because the way it is shown in media, it's as if the top contenders are TMC and BJP in West Bengal.

India has 545 elected representatives in the Lok Sabha.
I think it would be interesting to see what they have been saying for the last 15 months since elections last May.
To that effect I will be dedicating one tweet to each MP of India's Lower House in the ensuing thread. 1/n
“BSNL has a system filled with traitors. In the coming days we will be removing all 88,000 employees."
BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde
