Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads, the Granddads, the single parents who are both mum and Dad and to those who have lost their Dad or never got the chance to be a Dad. It’s always a day of mixed feeling but let’s keep it positive with a THREAD of fab movie Dads! #FathersDay
First up we have Mac Macguff who is pretty carefree until his teenage daughter announces a shock pregnancy in comedy drama, Juno. Played brilliantly by the always wonderful JK Simmons.
John Krasinski wrote and directed A Quiet Place but it is his leading role (or co-leading along with wife Emily Blunt) that we are highlighting. It goes without saying that this particular movie dad goes through the wringer over the course of the film, earning a whole lotta love.
Another Father who goes above and beyond - quite literally - is Bruce Willis’ portrayal of driller turned astronaut turned saviour of Planet Earth, Harry Stamper. Who didn’t feel a twinge in their chest when Liv Tyler was sat in front of those monitors?
Nic Cage might not be the worlds most - subtle - performer but he brought his parenting A game in Con Air as he tried his level best to get to his daughter with a stuffed rabbit in tow, while a plane full of criminals stand in his way.
Certainly the most emotional time we’ve had in cinemas for quite some time, Coco’s Hector is without a doubt worthy of inclusion on this list. Willing to give up fame and fortune for his family, and ending up dead in a back street. Luckily he got a second chance.
OF COURSE James Bond is the only person suitable to be Indiana Jones’ Dad, and when we saw them reunited on screen it made us all wish we carried umbrellas around just in case a fighter plane comes after us.
Single Parents make for great film fodder and Marlin is one of the best, stepping outside of the safety afforded by his anemone and setting out to Find Nemo who has been snatched by a diving loving dentist!
The loss of a child does not make you any less of a father, as evidenced by Crowe’s star turn as the Roman soldier turned Gladiator. He made sure he got his vengeance.
Sure, on paper, dressing up as an old Scottish lady and getting a job at your estranged wife’s house might not seem like a good idea, but Mrs Doubtfire is not a film about good ideas. It’s about love. And throwing limes at Pierce Brosnan.
Clark Griswold might not be in the running for Dad of the Year, but you can be certain he would get a participation medal and end up accidentally throwing it in a river and then falling in after it.
Darth Vader might have all the hallmarks of a villain, but his Fatherly love is his salvation/downfall. After all, what says ‘Great Dad’ better than overthrowing an intergalactic despot by throwing him over some railings and into a reactor core?
You can guarantee that Atticus Finch would be taking a knee (and not because he likes Game of Thrones) if he were around today. A man with such warmth and compassion makes for a fantastic father.
Sometimes you just have to help your son out and tell your wife that you just ate the pie. Good old Jim’s Dad.
Dennis Hopper might usually end up squarely in the villain camp but his role as Clarence’s father in Tony Scott’s True Romance will go down in movie history as one of the greats. Takes a strong man to call Christopher Walken an eggplant.
Will Smith’s role in The Pursuit of Happyness will always stick with us - not least when in a public toilet cubicle. Heart breaking but absolutely wonderful.
Which brings us to the end of our list with the bagel-buying, giant panda-carrying super Dad, Bryan Mills and his particular set of skills. Don’t mess with his daughter and definitely don’t ignore the warmth of his bagels.
So there you go!

We wish you all the best and hope today as been as great as possible.
