Don't wait for life to push you out of your comfort zone before you start grinding for your desired future. Have a clear vision of what you want, then go all out for it. Remember, you can't hit a target you cannot see.

By 18, our relationship was...strained. As a kid, I preferred Baby-Sitters Club books to basketball. I was (and still am) a sensitive person—a stray comment could swerve into screaming, sobbing, and the silent treatment.

For personal reasons, namely a fundamental disdain and dislike for my own coupled with more than one scar, I normally try and avoid #FathersDay like the plague. This year though is a little different. 1/
You'll occasionally see some manufactured hysteria about schools sending home letters addressed to "parents and guardians" instead of "mother and father", despite this having been commonplace for decades. 2/
It is actually important though, and not just, rightly, to respect trans-individuals. It's important because there are many children who don't have mothers and fathers. They have guardians and people they see as parents. 3/

I feel deep uncertainty about the world my son is growing up in. Our struggling democracy, climatechange, hate against AsianAmericans or anyone for that matter. That’s what comes to mind when I think of the future. But then I heard my son talk about his vision for the future…2/8
During the graduation, there was a sweet part where the kids took turns talking about their dream jobs. My son walked up and said “Hi…when I grow up I want to be a soccer player.” I never saw him in front of a crowd with that kind of confidence (and holding a microphone!) 3/8
