#MTBoS...here's the thing:

When you think about the math you currently teach, does it require THIS LEVEL OF critical thinking and mathematization?
This thread by @aetherlev dives into the mathematizing that occurred behind the K-pop stan to troll the Tulsa rally.

Let's take a closer look at what they did...with a lens for the mathematics that they used thru the 8 SMPs of the #CCSS
Not only did they 1) make sense of a problem (45 decided to hold a rally at the cite of the Tulsa massacre, originally scheduled for Juneteenth -->intentional?? yeaa) they persevered in solving the problem (they bought as many tickets to the event as they possibly could)
They also 5) Use(d) appropriate tools strategically by using TikTok (a network that was not being watching by political campaigners) and empty email accounts to throw off the legitimacy of the data collected by the email they used.
They then 7) Looked for and made use of the structure of the ticket website to bypass meaningless checkboxes (are you 18? check yes please), as well as the structure of the system to assume that everyone applying for tickets to the rally were, indeed, wanting to attend.
And for sure, the idea to troll in the first place was predicated on 8) Looking for the repeated reasoning of the racial injustices that exist within the systems of the US, and expressing their discontent with those systems through action.
As teachers of mathematics who want our students to employ the SMPs, we can't shy away from the fact the K-pop, TikTok, zoomers are all EXCELLING at the use of the 8 math practices.

The only difference is the context.
We keep telling them they need to learn how to change the bases between logs and they're trying to troll presidential rallies.

We tell them it's important to learn how to factor, and they are trying to end racial injustice through #BlackLivesMatter.
At the core of teaching of mathematics, we often tell ourselves that the purpose is to assure that citizens can grow to create a more just society with the knowledge they learn.

If that is the case, then let the above serve as evidence of knowledge learned and justice sought.
And if we're honest with ourselves, DESPITE your political affiliation, you should be damned proud of these kids for this accomplishment as they applied their thinking and use of resources completely out of context from which they were taught...
Unless of course...they aren't *really* learning these 8 SMPs in a way that can be meaningfully applied to their lives, or the point of learning math was never to create a more just society.

Then, we're just changing bases. And they're changing the face of history.
