Nehru’s blocking of any enquiry into SPM’s death,even after tearful pleas by his mother,is a clear indicator of his complicity. SPM at the time was,arguably,most prominent member of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. He died in captivity,away from his family,friends,party members
outside th reach even of India’s Supreme Court. Under such circumstances should an enquiry not have been held? There were five enquiries into Netaji Subhas’ disappearance. Gandhiji,Indira & Rajiv were assassinated in full public view. Yet enquiries were held into their deaths!
Nehru was returning from the coronation of Queen Elizabeth of UK and had halted at Cairo when the news was given to him. It is reported that he could not hide his glee and jumped up and went to another room. At least a dozen doctors from all over India expressed their doubts
about his treatment following his heart attack and his history of unstable angina. He was not allowed space to walk in captivity and was administered Streptomycin against his protests. After his heart attack he was made to walk and transported in a taxi,not an ambulance
Nehru was such a cad that while SPM was in captivity,he and his Home Minister K N Katju visited Srinagar ostensibly ‘for rest’ but did not see it fit to visit SPM. Later he said he ‘had been told’ that SPM was in a ‘picturesque bungalow’ whereas it was a tiny windswept cottage
on a hillock,some 15 kms away from the city,without even a telephone or radio. His company consisted only of Guru Datt Vaid,an Ayurvedist and a young man Tek Chand. Delivery of his letters and newspapers from home were very irregular which made him very depressed.
