This right here is why the country may be screwed. The parents are supposed to be the bad guys in this paragraph:
I am also fond of this section, in which a 24-year-old artist living in NY castigates his father, 54, a Chinese American who grew up in Dallas and went on to work for the FBI, as "delusional" for believing the system works.
I get the feeling much of this has nothing to do with fighting actual racism and everything to do with young people trying to make themselves feel important.
"You grew up in a segregated America, worked in the fields and drank from segregated water fountains, and succeeded, and now you defend the system? I, a millenial studying gender at a university, must lecture you on your tacit endorsement of racism!"
