Biden is improving on Clinton’s performance vs. Trump almost across the board. But his lead with college-educated white women is just staggering.

In 2016, Clinton carried that group by 7 points. Biden is now leading by 39 points.

Trump inspires far stronger feelings among voters than Biden does. But those feelings are mainly very negative.

Biden isn’t ahead by double digits because of his own runaway popularity. It’s because he’s broadly acceptable as an alternative to a strongly disliked incumbent.
It is not hard to envision how this race could narrow again: Biden is benefiting right now from Trump’s new weakness among somewhat conservative voters, whites and men. We haven’t really seen that before and so we have no way of knowing how lasting that shift might be.
But at the moment, Trump is deeply unpopular and losing the argument to his political opposition by lopsided margins on the two most urgent issues of the moment: the coronavirus pandemic and race relations/racial justice. nytimes.com/2020/06/24/us/…
There has been a fair amount of lightly informed punditry in recent months predicting that the country would rebel against lockdown orders out of impatience to reopen the economy.

So it is worth stressing that 3.5 months into this crisis that has absolutely not happened.

The Sanders team was divided over many important decisions, but most of all on how to handle Biden.

One faction constantly pleaded with Sanders to go on offense. Others saw it as a futile exercise – Bernie & Jane liked the Bidens and their word was final.

Sanders's pollster outlined this (prescient!) scenario in mid-January, in the latest of many appeals he made for Bernie to go on the attack.

But there was no consensus about what to do next, and Sanders never made the inroads he needed with black voters.

@nkulish Bloomberg's money is an enormous deterrent against dissent.

In 2018, Emily's List debated uninviting Bloomberg from a major event after he questioned #MeToo, but decided it could not risk alienating him.

He has given the group $6mm over the years.

@nkulish In 2015, Center for American Progress researchers wrote a report on U.S. Islamophobia, w/a 4300-word chapter on the Bloomberg-era NYPD.

When the report was published, the chapter was gone.

By then, Bloomberg had given CAP ~$1.5mm. That number has grown.
