Bottled water made by Whole Foods has high levels of arsenic, tests by Consumer Reports show.

The US arsenic limit: 10 parts per billion (ppb)

Whole Foods brand: 9.47 to 9.56 ppb

All other brands CR tested: less than 3 ppb washingtonpost.com/business/2020/…
2/ The Starkey Spring Water has so much arsenic that in 2 states it would be illegal if it came out of the tap (NJ, NH).

But on the shelves at Whole Foods it’s permitted.

Whole Foods know this spring, in Idaho, has a problem with natural arsenic intrusion.
3/ @WholeFoods has had to recall the water in the past because of excess arsenic, over the 10 ppb linit.

Given the grocer’s heritage as a pioneer in organic & safe food, its reaction is interesting: Everything is fine.
4/ Whole Foods simply said the water met FDA standards & the company’s ‘highest priority is to provide customers with safe, high-quality & refreshing spring water.’

Consumer Reports tested 45 brands of bottled water, not one of which had even 1/3 as much arsenic as Starkey.
5/ There was a time WF CEO John Mackey wouldn’t have let the sun set with bottles of arsenic-laced water on the shelves of Whole Foods.

Here’s the Consumer Reports story — the start of a CR + @GuardianUS look at water across the US.
