Arizona over 3,000 cases Thur.
California, Florida & Texas all over 5,000 cases.
Now so obviously out-of-control that the governors of FL & TX halt further re-opening.
Before this week, only 1 state had ever had 5,000 cases in a day: New York.
In pandemic summer, we now have three big states clocking 5,000 new cases day-after-day.
NJ reported 1,854 new probable covid deaths based on a review of people who were not tested but seemed likely to have died from cvd based on symptoms & circumstance.
AZ had its highest 1-day death total, at 79.
AZ, CA, FL, TX all have runaway infections.
None of those states have ever had even 100 deaths in a single day.
NY had 5 days over 1,000 deaths.
MA, a small state with 7 million people, had 31 days in a row over 100 deaths.
CA has a mandatory mask order.
AZ governor lifted his ban on mask orders, giving local officials room to impose them.
FL locals can impose mask rules — Dade, Broward & Palm Beach counties now require masks in public.
Corralling this in a place as big & varied as Texas or California or Florida requires strategy, clarity, great communication, patience — and it requires public confidence in the officials making the policies.
That’s going to mean a lot of miserably ill people, and thousands of deaths.
Plus extending economic pain that re-opening was supposed to end.
We cannot wish the virus away.
