First thing that strikes me as far as comparisons to US: Yugo was multiethnic country held together by iron fist (US has no iron fist) & problems arose when largest ethnic group (Serbs) got uppity & govt broke policy by addressing them as a bloc (was politically forbidden)
As far as the US context: the largest group (Whites or even a subset of non-lib Whites) don’t have any demands/cohesion in those terms. And I’m doubtful they ever will. So the US “works” in that Whites will meekly keep head down, pay taxes, let other peoples do ethnic politics.
I’m only a few minutes in but I don’t see US “going Yugoslavia”. There’s no consciousness like that among White people.
Yea: I don’t see it. For one the Serbs in Kosovo made demands about being preyed upon by invaders. Milosevic decides to “exploit” this & specifically in ethnic terms. His advisors tell him to lay into it.

They’re essentially having a town hall to yell at Milosevic about the Albanians. How hard it is with them exploiting, raping, pushing out Serbs.
Can you imagine White people airing grievances publicly in those terms? Or if they did, a politician listening? They’d dismiss it.

I have seen this scene in French & German town halls. About the Muslim problems. The politicians call them racist & leave it at that.
When was this doc made? Cause they’re already making Milosevic the villain essentially for saying “it’s ok to be Serb/you won’t get beaten anymore”.

Tbf: we aren’t really hearing the Albanian side. I’m just assuming the Serbs aren’t making it up. They could be I guess. I’m not from that part of the world where everyone hates everyone so deeply on ancient ethnic lines. I’m from the US.
